Community Migrant Resource Centre’s SETS Program aims to equip and empower humanitarian entrants and newly arrived migrants, as they start their new life in Australia. SETS supports key areas of settlement including social cohesion, economic participation, women’s safety & security, education and career pathways and housing. We aim to provide the tools for clients to settle into Australia with confidence, by building their sense of agency and independence, as they move towards a future of belonging and a sense of wellbeing.
CMRC is seeking an experienced Client Services and Housing Specialist to provide housing / homelessness support and service navigation to newly arrived refugee families who have arrived in the last 5 years and for those at risk of homelessness.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide casework support, housing support (advocacy, service navigation) and referral services to newly arrived families from refugee and migrant backgrounds
- Deliver Group Work Programs in line with Settlement/Housing Integration Framework Domains
- Build and strengthen housing / accommodation / private rental market relationships
- Organise information sessions on tenancy related issues with the target group
- Participate in network meetings and partner with housing services on shared advocacy approaches
- Provide advocacy for clients, who face systemic barriers in accessing mainstream services due to language barrier, or cultural, ethnic, religious bias.
- Input data for online portals (CDS and MA Connect) in a timely manner
- Support design and delivery of forums that enhance the housing security and economic empowerment of women-at-risk
Employment Status: Full time – 35 hours per week
Salary: Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services – Grade 3 pay point 1 (Salary Packaging available)
Location: CMRC Head Parramatta – Level 4, 1 Horwood Place, Parramatta
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential:
- University Degree or TAFE equivalency (Social Work), or commensurate experience in the housing sector
- Knowledge and experience of DEX and Community Data Solutions (CDS)
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (written / oral)
- Demonstrated experience/ability to undertake casework and adhere to strict KPIs on service deliverables
- Demonstrated housing /homelessness experience, liaison and networking with internal and external stakeholders
- Understanding of the issues and needs of newly arrived refugees and humanitarian entrants (particularly women at-risk from Afghanistan)
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed practice
- Ability to work in a team environment
Mandatory Documents:
- Have a current and clear Working with Children’s Check
- Have a valid National Police Check
Desirable:
- Speak Farsi/Dari languages
