Community Migrant Resource Centre’s SETSProgram aims to equip and empower humanitarian entrants and newly arrived migrants, as they start their new life in Australia. SETS supports key areas of settlement including social cohesion, economic participation, women’s safety & security, education and career pathways and housing. We aim to provide the tools for clients to settle into Australia with confidence, by building their sense of agency and independence, as they move towards a future of belonging and a sense of wellbeing.
CMRC is seeking an experienced Women’s Safety and Settlement Worker to provide settlement assistance to newly arrived families who have arrived in the last 5 years, with a focus on women-at-risk of DFV.
Key Responsibilities
Provide casework support and referral services to newly arrived families from refugee backgrounds – with a focus on who women who have arrived from Afghanistan since 2019 ( and some support on needs basis for women from other countries including Ukraine, Syria, Sri Lanka & Iran )
Provide Group Work Intervention Programs in line with Settlement Integration Framework Domains (women’s safety/security, housing, legal support, access to government services )
Conduct community consultations in partnership with ethno-specific associations and places of worship
Participate in network meetings with allied professionals
Collaborate with specialist services, to identify emerging trends and also barriers for clients in accessing mainstream DFV / accommodation services
Provide advocacy for clients, who face systemic barriers in accessing mainstream services due to language barrier, or cultural, ethnic, religious bias
Provide daily data reports through online portals
Support design and delivery of forums that enhance the wellbeing and agency of women-at-risk

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential
University or TAFE Degree ( Social Work ), or commensurate experience in the community/settlement sector
Knowledge and experience of DEX and Community Data Solutions (CDS)
Excellent interpersonal communication skills (written / oral)
Farsi/Dari language skills (written/oral)
Demonstrated experience/ability to undertake casework and adhere to strict KPIs on service deliverables
Demonstrated community development experience, liaison and networking with internal and external stakeholders
Understanding of the issues and needs of newly arrived refugees and humanitarian entrants (particularly women at-risk of DFV), particularly in relation to disclosure practices
Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed practice
Ability to work in a team environment
Desirable:
Have a current and clear Working with Children’s Check
Have a valid National Police Check
