Purpose of the position
The Youth & Arts Worker will create innovative arts programs with and for clients, by engaging with refugee and newly arrived communities in the Northern Region and developing programs that are relevant to them.
These programs will be facilitated by professional artists and delivered to those who wish to take part in creative activities. They will envelop CMRC’s mission of developing English language acquisition, digital literacy and employability, and creating social inclusion. The role will work within the NR team to ensure community participation.
Key responsibilities
- Working closely with the Northern Region Manager to develop drive and deliver arts and youth engagements with young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds
- Develop a migrant and refugee arts community via events and professional development programs
- Assist in raising the CMRC Northern Region profile in the arts sector
- Working with arts contractors and volunteers
- Work with partner organisations to engage community participants
- Working with the team to produce CMRC-led arts events in the region
- Creating the monthly Northern Region newsletter and other communications using Mailchimp and develop Northern Region social media content.
- Working collaboratively with other members of your and building a culture of information sharing and institutional knowledge
Selection Criteria:
Essential
- Strong experience ideally working with people from refugee & CALD backgrounds in youth and arts and understanding of the role the arts play in making a difference with positive social outcomes for refugees and migrants
- Knowledge of Sydney arts ecology
- Knowledge of digital SLR photography and video production
- Experience in developing strong and collaborative working relationships with community sector organisations and local councils
- Innovative & creative approach with a strong client-outcome focus
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed practice
- Strong computer proficiency with the Microsoft applications including Creative Cloud, Email, Word Valid Police Check and Working with Children Check to be provided
Desirable
- Own car and valid driver’s licence required
- Proficiency in a language other than English is highly desirable
